HOW DOES IT WORK?

     As your personal chef, I cook for you, fixing meals that cater to your personal tastes, dietary needs and whims.  How do I know what you like?  We chat.  I ask you lots of questions.  You tell me about your life style, any dietary goals you might have and your food likes and dislikes.
     Then, customized menus are developed for your approval. I’ll prepare your meals in my commercial kitchen.  Meals will be packaged and clearly labeled.  A complete menu, the meals and heating instructions will be delivered where and when you want them.

     o    Client consultation, food questionnaire

     o    Grocery shopping for the very best, freshest ingredients
     o    Cooking, packaging, labeling and storing of foods

DO YOU HAVE TO COOK IN MY KITCHEN?

     No, I cook in my commercial kitchen. 

CAN I CHANGE THE NUMBER OF MEALS I ORDER?

    Yes, of course. Just let me know as soon as possible about the change.

WILL YOU CATER MY PARTY?

     The Portable Cafe can cater parties on a case by case basis. Let me know if you have an event coming up and we can discuss details to make it one to remember.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? 

     This is a completely customized service so it is impossible to quote a price without talking to you.  In general, the cost is about what you would expect to pay in a nice restaurant. The difference is that in addition to receiving restaurant quality meals that are even more convenient than take-out, you will get freshly prepared meals that are customized to your tastes and preferences. And you will save an average of 7 to 10 hours a week.
     We will discuss pricing options during your consultation. You will quickly see that you are getting more than just a meal. You are getting meals prepared by someone who cares about what you are eating. You will eat better, have more free time, less hassle, and have a ready answer to the age old question ‘What’s for dinner?’

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

     The Portable Cafe accepts: Credit cards through Pay Pal, personal checks and cash. Payment must be made on or before the cook date.

ARE YOU INSURED?

     Yes. The Portable Café is licensed and insured.

HOW DO I KNOW YOU WILL HANDLE MY FOOD SAFELY? 

     I am ServSafe certified, which is the sanitation and safe food handling certification in the food service industry.  I am also certified in Pima County which has its own certification and I work out of a kitchen approved by Pima County Health Department.

WHERE WILL YOU SHOP FOR MY GROCERIES?

     I search for the finest ingredients which may turn up at a chain grocery store or a farmer’s market.   If you want all organic or locally produced foods, let me know.

CAN YOU MAKE A RECIPE I ALREADY HAVE?

     Absolutely yes! Making what is special for you is special for me.  Whether it is a family recipe passed down through the generations or something interesting clipped from the paper, I love to try new recipes and want to make you happy.

CAN YOU HELP ME WITH MY SPECIAL DIET?

     Yes, I am familiar with, and have experience cooking, many modern diets including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, diabetic, high blood pressure, low salt or cholesterol, gout, egg and dairy free, you get the idea. We can work with your doctor, nutritionist, dietitian or personal trainer to prepare meals to your specification. Or, you and I can work together to research and follow a diet to suite your needs.
     The disclaimer: Chefs at The Portable Cafe are not registered dietitians or nutritionists. I cannot recommend any particular diet for you.  Nor can I guarantee that your “special diet” will give you the results you hope for.  However, I can follow directions from your health consultant and we can research together what you think would be appropriate.   I want to help you be successful where food is concerned.
     My general cooking style is to make wholesome, healthy, flavorful meals that use healthy fats, lean protein, less salt and sugar.  I favor portion control over restrictive dieting. I can also help you to gain weight if that is what you need or build in a splurge if you would like me to.  

HOW IS THE FOOD PACKAGED?

     A variety of containers are used depending on the food and whether the food is frozen or fresh.  Generally reusable plastic containers are used or I can use glassware, if you prefer. We’ll figure out what is best for you during our consultation.  You can anticipate an upfront container charge of between $30 and $60.
